Finding a solution to recent inaccuracy in front of goals, has been high on the agenda at Tigerland this week.
Richmond has kicked a combined total of 48.71 in its past four games, with a return of 14.35 in its last two outings (8.18 v North Melbourne in Round 15 and 6.17 v Gold Coast in Round 16).
“Our goalkicking has actually let us down enormously,” Richmond’s spirited small forward Jake King said on ‘RSN’.
“All our forwards have had the opportunity to kick goals and, for some unknown reason, have just shanked them that little bit.
“Dimma (Damien Hardwick)sat us down and he really gave us no option, but to get our backsides into gear and make sure we start kicking it through the big sticks, otherwise he’ll find someone who will.”
King doesn’t attribute the wayward shooting for goal to a lack of practice in this crucial area of the game.
“We do goalkicking quite a bit at training, so I think it’s more of a mental thing these days,” he said.
“I’m going to try and put the goalkicking away for a week and just go out and enjoy training and enjoy the game. Hopefully, that will work.
“But we need to do something about it because, at the moment, whatever we’re doing to try and kick those goals isn’t working.
“Whether the boys need to go back and do the basics with their routine, or change up their routine, we need to do something because you need to make the most of your opportunities and kick the goals when you get the chance.”
