Richmond superstar Dustin Martin continues to be the pacesetter in the prestigious AFL Coaches Association’s Player of the Year award, despite not polling any votes in the Tigers’ Round 21 loss to Geelong at Simonds Stadium.
Martin, with a total of 104 votes, is five ahead of Geelong’s gun midfielder Patrick Dangerfield (99), who was awarded five votes for his performance at the Cattery last Saturday. Equal third on 69 votes are Hawthorn’s Tom Mitchell and Adelaide’s Rory Sloane.
The only two Richmond players to receive coaches’ votes in Round 21 were midfielder Dion Prestia and defender Nick Vlastuin.
Prestia picked up three votes for his 29-disposal display, which included 11 contested possessions, seven intercepts, five clearances, six score involvements, plus a team-high nine tackles.
Vlastuin also was given three votes after finishing the match with 24 disposals, a team-high eight rebound-50s, team-high eight intercepts, an equal game-high 10 marks and team-high 538 metres gained.
