Star key defender Alex Rance is confident the momentum Richmond has built up with consecutive wins against Essendon and North Melbourne, following four losses on-the-trot, won’t be adversely affected by its mid-season bye.
The Tigers take a 7-4 record into the break, with their next game 11 days away against Sydney at the MCG (Saturday, June 17).
Rance, who has gone camping with teammates David Astbury, Sam Lloyd and Ivan Maric, doesn’t believe Richmond will lose any impetus because of a bit of relaxation time.
“I don’t think too much changes. It’s just a nice little break to get away . . ,” Rance told ‘ABC AFL Grandstand’ in the rooms after the Tigers’ 35-point victory over the Roos at Etihad Stadium last Saturday night.
“We’ve had a really positive vibe around the group this whole season about enjoying our time together whether that’s in-game or having a bye week, going camping or going up north, or wherever anybody’s going . . .
“I don’t think it’s going to be tainted by a couple of days off.”
While Richmond is pleased with its first half of season 2017, Rance fully realises there’s plenty of hard work ahead for the Tigers post-bye.
“It’s a launching pad, but we can’t just sit there, because seven wins aren’t going to get you too far come the end of the season,” he said.
“We’re loving the process that we’ve put in place and if we can just keep executing and having the right mindset come game-day, it’s going to be an exciting year for us.”
