Kamdyn McIntosh epitomises the Richmond role player.
The hard-running, premiership Tiger fills a variety of roles for the team, and he attacks his on-field one in a low-key, selfless, effective manner.
In last night’s MCG qualifying final against Hawthorn, McIntosh’s role revolved largely around him pushing hard forward to try and impact the scoreboard.
He did it superbly on the big September stage, kicking an AFL career-high three goals.
On a wet night, where goals became even more precious, three of Richmond’s first half-dozen six-pointers came from the boot of the young man affectionately known at Tigerland as ‘Kapsun’.
“It was good tonight to get a bit of reward for my efforts on the fat side of the ground there. Three ‘snags’ . . . pretty stoked,” McIntosh told Channel Seven post-match.
“We’ve all got a bunch of different roles to play for the team and strengths . . . depending on what team we come up against each week.
“We try and manipulate oppositions and this week I tried to get forward a little bit more on their wingers.
“It ended up paying off for us.”
