Richmond has had just three 300-game players in its 133-year history, but that number may more than double over the course of the next few seasons.
Club ‘Immortals’ Kevin Bartlett, 403 games, Jack Dyer, 312 games and Francis Bourke, 300 games are the Tigers that have reached the 300-game milestone.
Current-day Richmond premiership stars Jack Riewoldt, Shane Edwards, Trent Cotchin, Dustin Martin and Alex Rance could well join them as triple centurions in the not-too-distant future.
Riewoldt, who turns 30 in October, has played 244 games so far and recently signed a two-year contract extension, ensuring he will remain a Tiger until at least the end of the 2021 season.
Given he’s got three games plus finals still left this year, plus a minimum of 66 (home-and-away) games in the next three seasons, Riewoldt, injuries permitting, will be way past 300 by the time his contract expires.
Edwards, who also turns 30 in October, has played 18 fewer games than Riewoldt (226 in total), but given his form and fitness levels, the 300-milestone is certainly not beyond him.
Cotchin, 28, has played 216 games, and is at the peak of his football powers. Again, barring injury, there seems no reason why he couldn’t go on for another four or five seasons.
Martin, who turned 27 only a few weeks ago, has played 196 games and is contracted to the Tigers for six more years beyond 2018. He appears certain, like Riewoldt, to go way beyond the 300-game milestone.
Rance, 29 in October, and a veteran of 194 games, also recently signed a two-year contract extension with the Club, taking him up to the end of 2021. He would, however, probably need another couple of years after that to crack the triple ton.
