Josh Caddy’s value to the Richmond team was further highlighted in yesterday’s match against Collingwood at the MCG.
Caddy, who missed the Anzac Eve clash with Melbourne because of a minor hamstring issue, played a significant role in the Tigers’ 43-point victory over the Magpies.
He had 21 disposals, 10 of them contested, four inside-50s, three clearances, five tackles, 10 score involvements, and again was prominent in hitting the scoreboard himself, finishing with an equal AFL career-high four goals.
In his four games so far this season, Caddy is averaging 18.2 disposals per match and he’s kicked 11 goals. He is ranked eighth in the competition for goals per game.
Caddy, however, admitted to some anxious moments in the lead-up to the selection of the Richmond side for the big Round 6 encounter with Collingwood, uncertain if he’d reclaim his place.
“The boys played really well on Tuesday night (v Melbourne), so I was pretty nervous actually after that game,” Caddy told Channel Seven post-game.
“I felt really bad, guys got dropped that didn’t deserve to, but I’m grateful that ‘Dimma’ (coach Damien Hardwick) brought me back in and it was great to be out here . . . and having a good win as well.”
Caddy also provided an explanation of what makes the top-of-the-table Tigers tick . . .
“We’ve just got a good connection . . . we’re a great bunch of mates and we just love going out and playing footy, like you do when you’re kids,” he said.
“That’s what we brought back last year, and we’ve continued on with. We just go out, have fun.
“We’re not the most talented side, but we just keep grinding.
“Every game’s pretty similar. It’s pretty close at half-time . . . I think we were down at half-time (v Collingwood), and we end up running over the top of them.
“We just pride ourselves on all the hard stuff that just wears the opposition down over the course of the game.”
