At the midway mark of the 2018 season, Josh Caddy finds himself in elite goalkicking company.
His first-class, four-goal display against Essendon in last Saturday night’s Dreamtime game propelled him into equal fourth place on the competition’s goalkicking table with a total of 27 goals (from nine games), which is eight behind the leader, North Melbourne star spearhead Ben Brown.
Round 11: Caddy on his goalkicking
Caddy has booted multiple goals six times this season and he’s scored at least one goal in each of his past 16 games. Only West Coast full-forward Josh Kennedy (50 consecutive games) and Adelaide captain Taylor Walker (31 games in-a-row) have a better current-day goals streak than Caddy.
Throw in the fact that he is averaging 19.0 disposals per match this season, and you can see just how influential Caddy’s been within the Tigers’ line-up, as well as why he’s being acclaimed as one of the competition’s most improved players in 2018.
“He certainly has improved,” said Richmond coach Damien Hardwick.
“It does take players time to fit into a system, and he took a little bit of time (after being traded to the Tigers from Geelong at the end of the 2016 season).

“We tried to figure out where the best fit was . . .
“His back-end of last year was very, very important, and now we’ve seen the progression of him as a player.
“His ability to play inside, play forward is incredible.
“It’s another magnet that I can move around and use . . .
“Credit where credit’s due, he’s worked incredibly hard on improving his game, both on and off the field, and he’s starting to reap the rewards of that.
“He’s still got a long way to go, too, which is exciting for us.”
