Richmond has been comprehensively beaten by ladder-leaders Geelong at the MCG on Friday night.

Despite starting the game brightly and holding the Cats to their first goalless quarter of the season in the opening term, Geelong went on to boot 15 of the 16 goals scored in the second and third quarters to run out 67-point victors.

Dustin Martin and debutant Patrick Naish got the Tigers on the scoreboard early as the hosts pressured their opponents into mistakes in the opening quarter.

However, after the first change, the Cats dominated the middle of the ground, set up their defence behind the ball, and scored freely as Richmond couldn't re-gain control of the game.

The score-review system will be in for an even greater amount of criticism over the next few days due to a clear Jack Higgins goal being ruled a behind after only goal line vision was viewed.

Dion Prestia (30 touches, 10 clearances, six tackles and six inside 50s) and Bachar Houli (27 disposals, eight marks and seven inside 50s) continued their impressive recent form, though there were few winners on the night for the Tigers.

Naish was impressive on debut, while Ivan Soldo took steps forward in his ruck apprenticeship.

Richmond face a six-day break and a trip to Adelaide to face the Crows next Thursday night ahead of the Round 14 bye.
