Richmond has used its third selection (No. 44 overall) in the 2019 national draft to recruit Brisbane Lions Academy midfielder William Martyn.
Here is a summary of what Richmond fans can expect to see from Martyn on-field...
Club: Brisbane Lions Academy
State: Queensland
Height: 183cm
Weight: 73kg
Will was the captain of the Brisbane Lions academy in 2019. He then represented the Allies in the National Championships before playing senior football in the NEAFL at the backend of the year for both the Lions, as well as Aspley, culminating in him being a part of the Lions' premiership-winning team.
He was outstanding in his five games for the Lions in the NAB League, averaging 29 possessions, nine contested possessions, four clearances, five tackles and five inside-50s per game. The highlight was his leadership and competitive instincts in a 33-possession performance, where his team was beaten by over 100 points by a strong Sandringham team, but his consistency was also a feature with him getting over 30 possessions in four of his five games at this level
He then had a solid national carnival playing a mixture of inside and outside mid roles and averaging 14 possessions per game.
Will is a great size for a midfield role and is equally capable of playing inside or outside the contest with his competitive instincts, hard running and neat foot skills. Will is an excellent addition to our midfield group with his flexibility and work ethic both on and off the field.
