Inspirational Richmond captain Trent Cotchin has made a perfect start in the 2019 AFL Coaches’ Association’s Player of the Year award.
Cotchin was awarded the maximum 10 votes for his excellent performance through the midfield in last Thursday night’s season-opener victory over Carlton at the MCG.

He finished the match with a team-high 31 disposals, including 14 contested possessions, a team-high six clearances, six inside-50s, six marks, four tackles and 548 metres gained.
Another Tiger midfielder in Kane Lambert received eight votes from rival coaches Damien Hardwick (Richmond) and Brendon Bolton (Carlton) for his top-class, 30-disposal display on the night.
Robust Richmond ruckman Toby Nankervis was rewarded for his strong showing – 17 disposals, 34 hit-outs and three goals – with four votes.
Rounding out the Round 1 Tiger vote-getters were Dustin Martin and Kamdyn McIntosh, with one apiece.
