Trevor Poole is Richmond’s final Homecoming Hero for the 2017 season.
The Tigers will pay tribute to Poole during the pre-game build-up at this Sunday’s Round 23 clash with St Kilda at the MCG.
Poole, who played 99 senior games with Richmond from 1984-89, and won the Jack Dyer Medal in 1985, will walk to the Punt Road end of the ground, where he’ll be warmly acknowledged by the Tiger Army.
He’ll kick a ceremonial goal, then sign the football and present it to a Yellow and Black barracker in the crowd.
Highlights of Poole’s playing career with the Tigers also will be shown on the MCG’s screens.
Poole, a skilful, mobile, defender/wingman, was recruited by Richmond from Victorian country club Tempy-Goya-Patchewollock.
He worked his way through the ranks at Tigerland, starting off at under 19s level in 1981, progressing to the reserves, and then making his senior league debut in Round 11, 1984 against Geelong at the MCG.
The then 20-year-old made steady progress throughout the rest of the ’84 season, with nine senior appearances all-up, before taking his game to an impressively higher level in 1985.
Poole averaged 20.0 disposals per match in the 20 games he played during the ’85 season, showcased his running ability, marking strength and kicking skills, represented Victoria twice, and capped off a fine year by winning the Jack Dyer Medal.
He then finished third in Richmond’s Best and Fairest the following season, and continued to provide the Tigers with good value until departing Punt Road at the end of 1989 to join Geelong, where he would go on to play 54 games, including the Cats’ losing 1992 Grand Final.
In 2001, Poole returned to Richmond as Football Operations Manager, and he served the Club in that role for two seasons.
For the past few years, Poole has been actively involved with the Tigers’ Former Players and Officials’ Association, and he’s currently their vice-president.
Poole was awarded Richmond life membership last December.
