Williamstown inflicted Coburg’s first loss of the VFL season yesterday at Burbank Oval.
A second-half fadeout cost the Tigers, who eventually suffered a 100-point defeat.
The Tigers were within six points of the Seagulls midway through the third quarter, but nine straight goals to the home side saw the margin blow out to 62 points at the final change.
In blustery conditions in Williamstown, Coburg’s midfield was missing Chris Knights and Nick Vlastuin, who were named emergencies for Richmond’s senior team.
Orren Stephenson and Liam McBean each kicked two goals, while Robin Nahas did his best to keep Coburg in the contest, collecting 27 disposals. Matt White worked his way into the game and finished with 22 touches.
There was an injury scare for David Astbury in his first game of the season, when he hyperextended his knee in a marking contest, but he returned to the field and finished with 14 possessions.
Coburg takes on the Northern Blues in Round 3, this Sunday, April 21, at 2pm.
