Richmond Next Generation Academy (NGA) Tigers Oscar Roberts, Melvic Pambai and Tanner Armstrong recently trained with the AFL side.
Richmond’s NGA Program – in connection with the Korin Gamadji Institute (KGI) – has a strong presence in regional Victorian Aboriginal communities, focusing its engagement and talent identification to the AFL Central, Central Murray, Golburn Murray, North East Border, Sunraysia, and Wimmera Mallee – the Murray Bushrangers and Bendigo Pioneers catchments.
Richmond's NGA program also introduces the game of Australian Rules to boys and girls from five-to-18 years of age who come from Indigenous and multicultural backgrounds where they may not have been exposed to the sport before.
Part of the Murray Bushrangers program, Tanner Armstrong (Rumbalara/Scotch College) recently featured in Richmond’s AFL training session.
After an impressive campaign for Vic Country in the Under 16 National Championships last year, Armstrong was named in the All-Australian squad, and received the Vic Country Coaches’ MVP.
Oscar Roberts (Wangaratta Magpies) also featured in Richmond’s AFL training.
At 18-years-old, Roberts, currently on the Murray Bushrangers’ list, has officially stepped into his draft year.
Roberts represented Ovens & Murray in the Under 18's Interleague last year, and featured in the Diversity All-Stars match in 2023.
Also training with the AFL Tigers was Melvic Pambai.
Pambai has been a part of the Bendigo Pioneers’ program over the preseason.
He also represented Vic Country in the 2024 Diversity All-Stars match against Vic Metro at Trevor Barker Beach Oval.
