Ten-years on since Richmond drove the establishment of the Champions of Change Coalition Sport Group, the Club is excited to share landmark progress released in a recent report.
The Champions of Change Coalition Sport Group Unstoppable report revealed that there has been more progress towards gender equality and pay equality in sport in the past decade than the prior century, but notes that key barriers remain.
The report is a comprehensive reflection of collective and individual efforts towards the goal of a gender equality sports sector within a generation.
Unstoppable describes the wins, challenges and future focus areas to achieve the Group’s vision for gender equality in sport within a generation.
Priorities include:
- increasing the representation of women in leadership roles
- creating viable and sustainable career pathways for women in all aspects of sport
- increasing investment in women’s sports
- closing the gender pay gap, and
- most critically, fostering safe, respectful, and inclusive sports cultures for all.
Richmond CEO, Shane Dunne said the Club was proud of the role it played helping to establish the group, and while it welcomed the progress made- understood the message was clear that there was more to be done.
“Champions of Change Sport Group are doing important work in the sporting landscape and the findings of the report are important to us,” he said.
“We feel a sense of pride in the progress that has been made and will embrace the work being done towards continual progress.
“As a member of the group, we will continue our thorough self-assessment, and map out how we can continue to improve across participation, pathways, investment and pay equality.”
