Richmond is delighted to have extended key position talent Noah Balta for a further seven years, tying him to the Club until the end of 2032.
Balta, 24, was set to come out of contract at the end of next season, with the extension keeping him at Richmond for at least the next eight seasons.
The 194cm premiership player was used at both ends of the ground in 2024, averaging six marks per game and booting 12 goals.
Balta was #1 at Richmond for contested marks this year and showed his ability to contribute across all areas of the ground with his strength, power and athleticism.
Selected with pick No. 25 overall at the 2017 AFL Draft, Balta spent 2018 developing his craft in the VFL before he made his debut in the 2019 season opener.
Playing as a ruck/forward, Balta featured 13 times at senior level that season before featuring in the Club’s VFL premiership.
Balta established himself as an AFL regular as a key defender in the 2020 premiership season, finishing eighth in the Jack Dyer Medal despite not breaking into the lineup until Round 5 of the shortened season.
The 24-year-old remained mainly in the back line for the next three seasons before returning to the front end at times this year.
Balta’s strongest games this season included a 23 disposal, three-goal game against Carlton when partnering Tom Lynch up forward in Round 1 and a 20 disposal, 12 mark, and seven intercept performance down back in the Round 14 victory against Adelaide.
The swingman said he was thrilled to remain at Richmond.
“I think I am a loyal person, and I want to repay the favour that players like David Astbury, Alex Rance, and Dylan Grimes showed me when I was younger,” he said.
“They pushed me to get better, and now I want to be the one helping to drive the next generation.
“I could not see myself playing anywhere else, and I think the hard work that we are about to all put in will make the future highs even sweeter.”
Richmond General Manager- Football Talent Blair Hartley said having Balta commit to the Club long-term was exciting.
“Noah is an important player to us with his versatility and ability to give us a powerful aerial option in all areas of the ground,” Hartley said.
“He continues to develop his game and leadership credentials, and we look forward to seeing him continue to flourish going forward.
“His development since arriving at the Club seven years ago has been terrific, and it is great news for everyone involved with the Club that Noah will be a key part of the next generation of Richmond.”
