Young Richmond defender James Trezise has been working hard on the offensive side of his game – and the fruits of his labour were clearly evident in yesterday’s match against St Kilda at Marvel Stadium.

Trezise, who was recruited by the Tigers in the 2023 mid-season rookie draft, had initially based his game predominantly on tight defence, shutting down opponents.

But after returning to VFL football from a syndesmosis injury that he suffered early this season, Trezise’s focus turned to improving his offense out of the backline.

His form at VFL level was excellent, and he subsequently won back a spot in Richmond’s senior side for the Round 19 clash with Greater Western Sydney.

He had 17 disposals against Collingwood in Round 21, but well and truly trumped that yesterday, in just his seventh game of AFL football, picking up an AFL career-high 22 disposals, to go with a career-high six marks, equal career-high five rebound-50s, four score involvements, six intercepts and 313 metres gained.

That performance was a sure sign that Trezise is feeling more assured at the game’s top level.

And, as Trezise’s continues to grow in confidence, he is going to become a valuable member of the Tigers’ team.
