Jack Ziebell knows plenty about being captain of an AFL club.
He captained North Melbourne for six years (2017-22) in his illustrious 280-game career with the Roos and earned a reputation as a fearless, inspirational leader.
Nowadays, in his capacity as a Richmond assistant coach, responsible for the team’s stoppage set-ups, Ziebell is working closely with the Tigers’ skipper Toby Nankervis. And he has become a big fan of the robust ruckman and triple premiership Tiger.
Ziebell provided an insight into Nankervis, and his importance to the team, during an “Our Four Walls” interview with Richmond Media.
Here is what he had to say about Nankervis . . .
“Toby’s having a fantastic year. He’s backing up his individual performances, week in, week out, and he’s having a really big influence around not only the contest, but on his teammates as well.
“He’s captain of our football club and it’s a pretty inspirational role to hold when you play the game like Toby does.
“He’s very combative, he provides a really strong contest, and then he’s very consistent.
“I think the main thing is he just provides 100 percent effort, 100 percent of the time.
“That’s something that he should be really proud of, and a lot of the young guys are looking up to and trying to emulate, which is really exciting for our club.”
