Richmond midfielder Reece Conca has spoken of his frustration in dealing with recurring injuries, which have ruined his first half of the 2015 season.
The 22-year-old was enjoying one of his best pre-seasons at Tigerland to date, but a knee injury in January started a chain reaction of setbacks, which has left him without a senior appearance this season.
The latest setback is a hamstring injury, which he originally hurt on the eve of the season, and re-emerged just as he was working back to full fitness.
“It hasn’t been an ideal start to the year for me personally,” Conca told Matthew Richardson on Roar Vision.
“These are just things you’ve got to deal with. It’s quite a long year – I’m just trying to knock it on the head, and finish the year strong.
“I was coming on really strong. I got a full game under my belt, and then my second full game out in Werribee…at the start of the second quarter, I felt it go.
“That’s footy. I’ll just bide my time in rehab and come back strong again.”
Conca is still a few weeks away from returning to the playing field, and the Richmond medical staff will be taking no risks with his recovery.
“It’s just a bit of a recurring thing at the moment,” Conca said.
“It’s a specific strength issue we’ve identified. I’ve just got to nail that, get the strength right up, and progress as it comes.
“We’re not putting a time schedule or anything on it. We’re just playing it week by week.
“I’m not really thinking too much about footy at the moment. Obviously I’m still thinking about team structures, and making sure I’m all over that.
“Hopefully we’re finishing really strongly and I can add a bit of my own personal form to the team.”
