Richmond AFLW coach Ryan Ferguson says the Tigers' six-point Round 1 win was the "perfect start" to their 2023 campaign.
Ferguson was confident the victory against such a quality opposition will set the group up well for what's ahead this season.
"We didn't expect to win, we had belief we could win. We knew how hard they work, how strong they are in the contest, how dangerous they are," Ferguson said.
"To know what we were coming up against and how sharp we had to be for the full four quarters, they're such a dangerous team and they have been for a long time.
"We knew it was going to take every minute of the game to get over the line.
"It was a hell of a contest for the whole game and a great advertisement for football in general."
Ferguson lauded the top-class efforts of Monique Conti (26 disposals, eight clearances) and match-winner Caitlin Greiser.
"(Conti's) a star, predominately because she's such a team-first player and she works so hard," Ferguson said.
"Players like that are really hard to play against.
"Greiser's last quarter was just outstanding. Come the big moments, she gave us so much with her contests and bringing the ball to ground... she really stood up in her first game in our colours, that was a pretty special performance.
"Greiser and Brennan will hopefully, along with the rest of the group, be a strong partnership."
Ferguson said the Tigers would enjoy the "special" victory while remaining focused on Round 2 against Adelaide at Ikon Park this Friday night, Richmond's home ground for the season.
"That's what's been a hallmark of our players, that they lean into the next challenge," Ferguson said.
"(And) we'll launch into that next challenge."
