Tim Taranto has rocketed into equal ninth place in the AFL Coaches Association’s Champion Player of the Year award following another top-class performance for Richmond, this time against his former team Greater Western Sydney at Giants Stadium last Sunday.
The star midfielder, who finished the match with a game-high and season-high 36 disposals, team-high 12 contested possessions, four marks, three inside-50s, six rebound-50s, game-high nine clearances, one goal, six score involvements, five tackles and game-high 630 metres gained, received five votes in the Round 12 voting.
He has picked up 27 coaches’ votes since Round 8 for an overall total of 43 votes in the prestigious award.
Triple Tiger premiership star key forward Jack Riewoldt polled the most coaches votes in the match – seven – for his dynamic display throughout the contest.
Riewoldt had 15 disposals, took an equal game-high eight marks, including a game-high three contested grabs, kicked five goals and an equal game-high 10 score involvements.
Excitement machine Shai Bolton, with 23 disposals, eight contested possessions, four marks, six inside-50s, three rebound-50s, one goal, two goal assists, nine score involvements, four tackles and 577 metres gained, was given five votes.
Talented key defender Noah Balta was the fourth Richmond player to be awarded votes in the match.
Balta, who had 17 disposals, six marks, four rebound-50s, eight intercepts, four score involvements, an equal team-high seven one-percenters and 380 metres gained, also was awarded five votes.
