Richmond co-captain Toby Nankervis did everything in his power trying to lift the Tigers to victory over Port Adelaide at the MCG yesterday.
The triple premiership Tiger ruckman, in his second game back after being sidelined for six weeks with a syndesmosis injury, was at his robust best, constantly putting his body on the line for the Yellow and Black cause and applying intense pressure to opponents.
He finished the match with 22 disposals, a team-high 13 contested possessions, three marks, four rebound-50s, six intercepts, 29 hit-outs, a game-high eight tackles and 222 metres gained.
Interim Richmond coach Andrew McQualter acclaimed Nankervis in his post-match press conference.
“Toby got a lot of the ball . . . he was really competitive,” McQualter said.
“We love Toby for what he’s given us for a long period of time.
“We know how much of a competitor he is and the more Toby plays, the better he gets as well.
“So, we expect he’ll keep improving.”
