As the old saying goes, a picture’s worth a thousand words . . . and these two photos are most definitely testimony to that.
The first photo features the children of five-time Richmond premiership hero and Club ‘Immortal’ Francis Bourke at a function the day after the Tigers’ thumping 1980 Grand Final win against Collingwood.
It was Bourke’s fifth premiership with Richmond and his children, Loretta, two, David, four, Neroli, seven and Jennifer, three, had the thrill of posing with the prized cup in the backyard of then Tiger president Ian Wilson’s home.
Fast-forward 37 years (albeit time moved so slowly throughout this period), and the Bourke children were delighted to recreate that image from 1980, after the Tigers had broken the longest premiership drought in their history, with the mighty victory over Adelaide in last Saturday’s Grand Final.
Loretta, David, Neroli and Jennifer proudly posed with the 2017 premiership cup on the balcony at the Swinburne Centre, Punt Road Oval.
