Richmond reaped the rewards of a strong defensive mindset in yesterday’s clash with Fremantle at the MCG.
The Tigers downed the Dockers by 27 points in a tough battle throughout, which they were thoroughly prepared for.
“We knew if we were going to win this game, we had to be on top of our defence and play the best defensive game we’ve played, and I think we did that really well,” said Richmond rising star Brandon Ellis.
“I think ‘Cotch’ (Trent Cotchin) was outstanding today, ‘Jacko’ (Daniel Jackson) did a really good job on (Nathan) Fyfe when he went there, same as Matty White, who stopped Stephen Hill’s influence.
“With the depth that we’ve got now, it’s exciting times . . .”
Ellis was one of Richmond’s best, picking up 24 disposals in another highly-impressive display.
“The last three or four games have been a little quiet, so I pushed myself to have a big game today and I think I did alright,” he said.
“I just can’t wait to take on Sydney next week.”
