Richmond AFLW coach Ryan Ferguson says he is proud of his side's ability to stay calm and stick to task.

After overcoming a 26-point deficit in the first term on Friday night, the Tigers showed immense "composure and patience" to chip awayand run out 10-point winners.

"(Carlton) did jump us... They converted really well and outplayed us in the first quarter," Ferguson said.

"So, to wrestle momentum back and do it bit by bit and not panic and stick to task, it was another mature performance and I'm really proud of how they handled that situation."

Ferguson is confident the experience would "set the Tigers up" for whatever the rest of the season holds.

"It's just part of our growth of trying to become a good team and understanding how to handle all sorts of situations," he said.

"The more experiences we get and the better result, it adds to the belief.

"I know at three-quarter time they were oozing with genuine belief, they really thought they could outrun and outwork the opponent and get the score on the board."

First-year sensation Eilish Sheerin agreed with Ferguson's sentiment.

"There's a lot of belief there," the dashing defender said.

"Obviously there are things we can improve on but we're building really nicely.

"We'll just continue to focus on the next two weeks and hopefully carry that momentum into the end of the season."

Sheerin said the first-ever AFLW win over inaugural side Carlton "really shows the growth of our program".

"It's really nice for us to show the competition and all of our supporters that we're serious and here to compete," she said.
