Richmond’s CEO, Brendon Gale, has strongly rejected suggestions the Club’s season has been derailed due to the decision to sell two home games interstate.

The Tigers were beaten by Port Adelaide in their Round 10 home game in Darwin and, last Saturday, suffered a surprise loss to Gold Coast in Cairns.

Gale, however, remains unrepentant with the decision to turn the interstate venues into temporary home territory for the Tigers . . .

“We made a decision about 18 months ago, for our club to become competitive on a sustained basis, we had to build our financial strength.  In that context, the decision was made to sell what could only be described as a low-value game, in terms of playing Gold Coast at Etihad Stadium, for a reasonable return,” Gale said on 3AW’s pre-game football program yesterday (Sunday, July 17).

“To simply focus on the selling of the game as the basis of that result is an excuse, a cop-out, and we won’t accept it as a footy club . . .

“I can understand the disappointment and frustration of a lot of our supporters, but we are simply not going to accept short-term fixes.”

Other topics covered by Gale in an expansive interview, included the team’s form slump, list management issues, free agency, and the Club’s long-term vision.
