Richmond co-captain Toby Nankervis delivered a stirring speech at last Tuesday night’s 2022 Jack Dyer Medal function.
The robust Tiger triple premiership ruckman spoke passionately about how the lessons learned from the team’s string of close losses throughout the ’22 season would galvanise the playing group in the next phase of their football journey.
“We believe we have a strong foundation and have set a standard that will allow us to compete in every game we play, based simply on effort, intent and a desperate edge to always be in the fight,” Nankervis said.
“We are clear on the direction we want to go. We want to be a side that consistently challenges for premierships.
“While I can’t promise premierships, I can promise this – we will come back ready, we will continue to care, challenge and support each other. We will make sacrifices because we’re all in.
“We are determined to be better. We will be relentless and consistent.
“Tonight, we put a close on season 2022. I leave proud, but not satisfied.
“I have even more confidence in this group, and more hunger for what lies ahead.
“We are better prepared than ever before for season 2023.”
