Richmond AFLW can't wait to kick off a huge day of football in Yarra Park this Saturday.

With the AFLW competition running at the same time of year as the AFL Grand Final for the first time in history, the Tigers will host Brisbane at the Swinburne Centre from 11.00am ahead of the AFL Grand Final between Sydney and Geelong at the MCG from 2.30pm.

Speaking to Richmond Media from the Footy Festival in Yarra Park, young gun Ellie McKenzie said it was a "really exciting" opportunity for the Tigers.

"We'll have a bit of a crowd coming through hopefully with the Grand Final, so it will be good to get some Richmond supporters down," McKenzie said.

"For the group, knowing that there's going to be a big crowd amongst the precinct is really exciting.

"I love being down here (at the Footy Festival) and seeing all the little Auskickers around and having a kick."

Having cherished AFL Grand Final week growing up as a young footy fan, McKenzie said it meant a lot to have AFLW celebrated in the same week.

"It's really cool and something that is rightfully happening," the former No. 1 draft pick said.

"The AFLW is only getting bigger and bigger every year and this season having all 18 teams is absolutely massive for us we've got a lot of supporters coming through.

"We're really excited about the opportunity and we're excited to be able to play in and amongst the precinct during this time."

The contest against the ladder-leading Lions is a challenge the Tigers are embracing, heading into the clash confident off the back of two straight wins.

"It's a really big game for us against Brisbane who are coming off a win against Melbourne, so we know they're going to be fit and firing but we're ready for the challenge," McKenzie said.

"We spoke at training about how we're not fearful of the challenge, we know we can really take it to them.

"Obviously they're a great team and we respect that, but we're going to back what we know and what we do and our method, and hopefully we can come out on top."

Nineteen-year-old McKenzie has enjoyed a strong start to the season, her third as a Tiger. Thriving off the back of a full pre-season, the star midfielder has averaged 15 disposals across the first four rounds while also performing strongly up forward.

"I'm really happy that I've just been able to get onto the park. Having a full pre-season for the first time in my career has been pretty cool,  knowing that I have that aerobic backing behind me coming into games," McKenzie said.

"I've been moved a little bit down forward this season which is something different for me, but I've been really happy with how I've gone an how's the group's been going as well."
