Richmond’s scoring power this season was further highlighted in last night’s final round 66-point victory over Essendon at the MCG.
The Tigers hit the 20-goal mark for the second game in-a-row, which is the first time they’ve achieved that since 2015.
They registered 21.15 (141) against the Bombers after kicking 20.8 (128) in the previous round v Hawthorn.
Richmond has now scored 20 goals or more in four games this season.
You have to go back 40 years for a season in which the Tigers had more 20-goal performances. They did it nine times in 1982.
And, they have kicked 100 points or more in a match 10 times this season, which is their most century scores since 2018.
Tom Lynch has played the starring role in Richmond’s attack with 60 goals from the 18 games he’s played, but he’s received strong support through the combined efforts a group of talented, young Tigers and a legendary veteran.
Shai Bolton has 41 goals for the season from 22 games, Noah Cumberland 18 in just seven games, Maurice Rioli Jr 13 from 14 games (several of them were as the medical substitute) and Jack Riewoldt 37 in 20 games.
Lynch spoke enthusiastically about the re-energised Richmond forward line in an interview with Channel Seven following his superb five-goal showing against the Bombers.
“I feel like we’ve had a bit of transition in the forward line,” Lynch said.
“(Noah) Cumberland’s come in. I think he’s played six or seven games . . . it feels like he’s been there all year. It’s amazing how quickly he’s become accustomed to it.
“Maurice (Rioli), every game he’s played he’s got better . . . He brings that pressure every week. He’s amazing.
“Obviously, (Shai) Bolton, he’s just an amazing player, and Jack (Riewoldt) is a superstar.
“So, it’s a really exciting forward line . . . We’re pretty dangerous up there.”
