Noah Cumberland’s lively display up forward was a major highlight for Richmond in its disappointing Round 18 loss to North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium yesterday.

The 21-year-old lined up for his first full game after being the medical substitute on debut in Round 11 against Sydney at the SCG and not getting a run.

He subsequently was a late call-up as the sub for last week’s clash with Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium, but quickly found himself in the action when star key forward Tom Lynch injured his hamstring during the early stages of the opening quarter.

Cumberland acquitted himself well against the Suns, booting two goals from five shots.

Then, after being selected in the 22 for yesterday’s encounter with the Kangaroos, he excelled, finishing the match with 14 disposals, nine contested possessions, four marks, a team-high three goals (3.4), 11 score involvements, an equal game-high seven inside-50s, four tackles and 345 metres gained.

Although it is only a small sample size, on what he’s shown so far at the game’s highest level, Cumberland seems right at home and set to provide the Tigers with good value in his forward role.
