Marlion Pickett’s performance for Richmond against West Coast at the MCG yesterday symbolised his season so far.
The dual premiership Tiger, who has maintained such an impressive level of consistency throughout 2022, was pivotal in the team’s 35-point win.
He had an AFL career-high 25 disposals, an equal team-high 10 contested possessions, a team-high six inside-50s, three rebound-50s, eight intercepts, seven score involvements, a game-high five tackles, took seven marks and kicked an AFL career-high two goals in his wing role.
Richmond coach Damien Hardwick heaped praise on Pickett in his post-match press conference.
“I thought he was huge,” Hardwick said.
“He probably set the tone for what we were lacking . . . his hardness in and around the contest, ability to win crucial ball, step-in tackle.
“He epitomised what we need.”
Pickett is averaging 17.2 disposals, 5.0 marks, 3.9 inside-50s, 4.9 score involvements, 4.8 intercepts and 395.9 metres gained per game this season.
