North Adelaide coach Jacob Surjan has provided an insightful appraisal of Richmond’s mid-season rookie draft selection Jacob Bauer.
Surjan, a former Port Adelaide player, believes Bauer, who spent two years with the Sydney Swans Academy (2020-21) before joining North Adelaide in the SANFL competition, is well equipped to succeed at the game’s highest level with the Tigers.
Bauer was impressive in a key forward role with North Adelaide this season, kicking 16 goals from six senior appearances.
“He has a great ability to mark the ball and read the flight of the ball in the air. He’s really competitive as well, and he’s a beautiful set shot,” Surjan told News Corp.
“He knows the areas of the game that he needs to get better at, but he’s got a lot of things that AFL clubs need and like.
“I don’t think he needs to get bigger, but he just needs to get stronger in his body and with his contest, and if he gets into an AFL environment, he’s got plenty of time for that . . .
“Jacob’s development in the last little bit has been great. He’s very driven, he wants to get the best out of himself, and he’s a really humble kid.”
