Richmond joins AMF to combat bullying
Richmond Football Club has joined The Alannah and Madeline Foundation to help reduce schoolyard bullying.
The Better Buddies Framework, now in 940 primary schools across Australia, is designed to help reduce bullying and create friendly, caring school environments.
It helps students entering their first year of primary school to feel safe, valued and connected to the school community, by pairing them with an older buddy.
The Alannah and Madeline Foundation is a national charity that protects children from violence and its devastating effects.
“We extend our thanks to Richmond Football Club for sponsoring Mount Ridley College to participate in our Better Buddies Framework,” said The Alannah and Madeline Foundation’s CEO, Dr Judith Slocombe.
“We congratulate the Club for recognising that bullying is a serious issue in the community.
“The Club’s support of our Better Buddies Framework is helping to create friendly and caring school communities, and reduce the incidence of bullying.”
To launch Richmond’s support of the Better Buddies program at Mount Ridley College, Tiger star and The Alannah and Madeline Foundation supporter Jack Riewoldt, and the Club’s CEO Brendon Gale, helped the school’s senior buddies present their prep buddies with Buddy Bears.
“We’re thrilled to be working with The Alannah and Madeline Foundation to deliver this fantastic program at Mount Ridley College,” Gale said.
“Bullying is a serious issue in schools, and we will be providing all the support we can to help young students feel welcome and safe at school.
“Our support of Better Buddies is an extension of the work the Club has been doing with primary schools in Craigieburn in the past few years.”
Mount Ridley College Principal Lino Pagano said: “Mount Ridley College would like to thank the Richmond Football Club for its generous sponsorship of the Better Buddies Program at our College.
“We would also like to thank the Rotary Club of Craigieburn for sponsoring the purchase of 116 Buddy Bears for our prep students.
“In conjunction with The Alannah and Madeline Foundation, Mount Ridley College is aiming to improve the transition process for students into primary school. The program also develops the important qualities of leadership in our Year 3 and 4 students.”blog comments powered by Disqus
