Talented Tiger tall Noah Balta took another significant step in his transition from key defender to key forward with a lively display in last Saturday’s practice match victory over Hawthorn at Devonport.
Balta was one of Richmond’s best players, finishing the game with 19 disposals, nine contested possessions, five inside-50s, three intercepts, seven marks, three goals and 10 score involvements.
He showcased his impressive skill set and provided the Tigers with another potent target across the forward line.
Richmond assistant coach Adam Kingsley acknowledged Balta’s efforts during his post-game press conference.
“We were really happy with Noah. Thought his ability to compete, to bring the ball to ground, bring our crumbers into play, was really strong,” Kingsley said.
“Obviously he’s made an AFL name for himself as a backman, and been really important for us, but we feel like we can stretch opposition with the three keys – Jack (Riewoldt), Tom (Lynch) and Noah.
“He competes, his aerial stuff is really important, and his ground-level stuff is really good for a big guy.
“He showed a lot today . . . he was really strong.”
