Richmond’s premature end to the 2021 season has been a blessing in disguise for Shane Edwards.
The 33-year-old triple Tiger premiership star showed no signs of slowing down in last Saturday’s practice match against Geelong at GMHBA Stadium.
He was his trademark quick, slick, silky-skilled self, creating numerous opportunities for teammates, playing predominantly up forward with an occasional burst through the midfield.
“It’d be the most work I’ve done in a pre-season for a while now,” Edwards told Richmond Media post-game.
“We obviously didn’t finish too high up the ladder last year, so we started earlier, and I didn’t miss a main session . . .
“I’m feeling as fit as I’ve felt in a long time.”
Edwards believes the Tigers are well placed to rebound strongly in the 2022 season.
“We’re really excited,” he said.
“It’s been a pre-season of learning and growth and getting back to the fundamentals.
“And I think it’s exciting tweaking our game plan a little bit. It’s been a while since we’ve done something like that . . .
“We don’t really know what to expect too much, but we know that we’ll be competitive with our efforts, so I’m looking forward to it.”
