Richmond recruit Aaron Edwards attributes his recent strong form to an acclimatisation period in the Tigers’ forward line.
The former North Melbourne key forward has played four straight games alongside Jack Riewoldt and Ty Vickery in the Richmond forward half, and the trio is starting to click together.
“I’m playing in a new team with new structures…I’m getting used to it,” Edwards said.
“It’s my fourth game now, and I’m feeling more comfortable in my role. It’s going really well.
“I’m just playing my role in the three keys (forwards). We try to bring each other into the game…we’ve talked about that over the last few weeks, just us three really working for each other, and isolating each other, and it’s working really well.
“I’ve never played with them, and it’s been a month now. It’s just getting used to where they want it, and kicking it to space. We’re really starting to gel, and hopefully we can continue to go down those lines.”
Edwards was one of the best afield in the Tigers’ 64-point win over St Kilda on Sunday, collecting an equal career-high 19 disposals, taking nine marks, kicking a goal and having nine score involvements.
The previous week, he posted 18 possessions, nine marks and a goal against the Western Bulldogs.
The 29-year-old told Triple M after Round 14 about his hunger to succeed in his eighth season, at his third AFL club.
“I guess not being in the side at the start of the year, I really worked hard and played some good VFL football,” he said.
“Obviously once I get in I don’t want to let it go. I’m fit, and hopefully I can continue on, get a few kicks and play my role.”
Next week, Edwards will get the chance to line up against his old side, the Kangaroos, at Etihad Stadium.
