Richmond’s General Manager of Football-Performance Tim Livingstone has provided an update on superstar Dustin Martin’s kidney injury.
Martin suffered a lacerated kidney during the Tigers’ Round 18 match of the 2021 season against Brisbane at Metricon Stadium.
He subsequently spent more than a week in a Gold Coast hospital and missed the remaining home-and-away rounds while recovering in Queensland.
The triple Norm Smith Medallist was advised to avoid contact training for three months and he has lost a fair bit of weight, which is normal in the circumstances.
Livingstone expects Martin will be ready to go for the pre-season period.
“Dusty’s going really well. He’s just slowly started training, which is a planned process for him,” Livingstone said on 3AW’s Sportsday program.
“He’ll up the ante, but I know he’s just slowly getting into it, and we’ll build up over the next month or so.
“We expect him to be fine to do a normal pre-season.”
