Richmond will have to defy recent history if it is to defeat Adelaide in Saturday’s big Round 21 clash at Adelaide Oval.

The Tigers, who haven’t played at the Crows’ new home ground before, have a poor record first-up at interstate venues.

In 11 interstate debut attempts, they have succeeded only once – Round 12 of the 2012 season against Greater Western Sydney at Spotless Stadium – and that was by just 12 points.

They lost their first games at Patersons Stadium (Subiaco, WA), the WACA (WA), the SCG (Sydney), Stadium Australia (Sydney), the Gabba (Brisbane), AAMI Stadium (Football Park, Adelaide), Metricon Stadium (Carrara, Gold Coast), Marrara Oval (Darwin), Cazalys Stadium (Cairns) and York Park (Launceston).

Adelaide Oval becomes the 33rd venue for Richmond in its 106-year league football history.  All-up, the Tigers have won 10 and lost 22 of their initial encounters at those league grounds.

Although Richmond has won three of its past four games in Adelaide (at the old AAMI Stadium venue), three of those were against Port Adelaide.

The Tigers have played the Crows 15 times in Adelaide for five wins and 10 losses.
