Final FTF push
The launch of the Fighting Tiger Fund in 2011 was a crucial component in Richmond’s quest to achieve its ambitious 3-0-75 aim.
So far, in excess of $3.2 million has been pledged, which means the Club is more than halfway towards its overall objective of $6 million.
Richmond is now about to embark on the significant final phase of its push to reach the target. The upcoming Fighting Tiger Fund function, on Saturday, June 2, will be a major driving factor in achieving this.
Club players and coaching staff will be in attendance on what shapes as a pivotal night in Tigerland history, with the opportunity to finish the job that was started last year, and return Richmond to the path leading to greatness.
As Richmond approaches the midway mark of its five-year, 3-0-75 vision (launched in early 2010), the Club has received a big tick of approval from AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou.
Demetriou is impressed with Richmond’s turnaround - on and off the field - notwithstanding the fact that the Club still has a fair way to go.
“I can remember when Brendon Gale put out that five-year plan and how he was ridiculed about the aspirational aspects of the targets, with people saying they were far-fetched,” Demetriou told ‘The Saturday Age’.
“He (Gale) has done a remarkable job, make no mistake, in what he has done at Richmond. He has been a great appointment by Gary (March) and the board.
“Everyone has always assumed that Richmond has this great underlying supporter base that will come out of the woodwork if they are successful and maybe that is true, but . . . what they have achieved in this period has been extraordinary.
“Last year they received a large amount in equalisation from the AFL, but prior to that they had no received much from the AFL and neither had they asked for it. They wanted to be self-sufficient.”
Richmond is closing in on a record 50,000 members in 2012. The Club currently has 49,117 members - the fourth highest membership total in the entire competition.
Only Collingwood, Hawthorn and West Coast have more members.
