Richmond’s first pick in last week’s AFL National Draft, Daniel Rioli, has been handed the Club’s famous No. 17 guernsey that his revered great-uncle, Maurice Rioli, wore with such distinction during his playing days with the Tigers.
Maurice won two Jack Dyer Medals (1982 and 1983), a Norm Smith Medal (1982), was runner-up in the Brownlow Medal (1983), and thrilled the Tiger Army with his dazzling deeds on-field, while proudly wearing the No. 17 jumper.

Daniel is deeply honored to be given the opportunity of continuing the Rioli No. 17 tradition at Tigerland.
“It got mentioned to me and I spoke to mum and dad about it and they were happy with it . . . I was pretty stoked and willing to wear it,” he told ‘Roar Vision.
“To have the number Maurice wore, passed on to me, it’s a big honor . . .
“I’m looking forward to representing it as best as I can.”
Richmond’s second selection in the 2015 National Draft, Oleg Markov, has been handed the No. 31 vacated by Nick Vlastuin, who has moved into the No. 1 guernsey.
