Liam Baker’s value to the Richmond team was exemplified at the MCG last Friday night.
The dual premiership Tiger, who has developed into a star down back, provided the side with a timely boost when he moved forward during the big clash with ladder leader the Western Bulldogs.
Baker’s clever crumbing goal in the tense last quarter gave the Tigers some crucial breathing space after they had so impressively worked their way into the lead, overcoming a deficit of more than four goals at one stage.
It was a case of back to the future for Baker, who started his football life at Tigerland as a forward after being recruited from Western Australia.
“I went forward there a bit in the last quarter, and it was good,” Baker told Fox Footy in a post-match interview.
“If you can play a different position, hopefully it keeps you in the team for longer . . .
“Whatever ‘Dimma’ wants me to do, I’m happy to do and try to execute as best I can.”
