Richmond’s Monique Conti and Katie Brennan have capped off outstanding 2021 seasons by being named in the 2021 AFL Women’s All Australian team.
Conti, 21, is now a two-time All Australian, backing up her 2019 feat, while Brennan, 28, has been named in the side for the first time of her career.
Brennan, named centre half forward in the annual team, was ranked #3 in the competition for contested marks and goals in 2021.
The 175cm marking forward also averaged 13.8 disposals per game and booted multiple majors in five of the last six matches.
Brennan, a marquee signing in the inaugural AFLW season and a club captain for the past five seasons, said she felt 2021 was her best year at the level.
“I think it was also my favourite season, (because of) the fact that we were able to connect as a group and that I had so many fantastic teammates around me,” she said.
“I feel as if I had a great season, and it was definitely my most enjoyable so far. I am so excited about what we are building.”
Conti, who was named on the wing for the team, also won a WNBL Championship and Richmond’s AFLW best and fairest in 2021, said that the year was a highlight of her career.
“Everyone just connected really well. Every time we went out to play, we played for each other. I think we did that, and we created history; it was a special year for everyone,” she added.
The star on-baller has been outstanding since signing for Richmond in April 2019, winning two AFLW best and fairests, the VFLW best and fairest off just six games, and now being one of the Club’s inaugural All Australian’s.
In other news from today, Conti and star draftee Ellie McKenzie were named in the 2021 AFLW 22 under 22 team.
