Richmond champion Dustin Martin has started the new season with a perfect 10 in the voting for the 2021 AFL Coaches’ Association’s Champion Player of the Year award.
Dusty’s dazzling display in the season-opener against Carlton at the MCG last Thursday night earned him 10 votes from respective coaches Damien Hardwick and David Teague.
He had 31 disposals, seven marks, eight inside-50s, five clearances, a game-high 12 score involvements, four tackles, a game-high four goal assists, 619 metres gained and kicked two goals in Richmond’s 25-point win.
Young gun Tiger midfielder Jack Graham, who finished the match with an AFL career-high 33 disposals, career-high 11 inside-50s and career-high 836 metres gained, picked up seven votes.
Veteran Richmond star key forward Jack Riewoldt received five votes for his fine four-goal performance.
Kane Lambert (28 disposals, six marks, four inside-50s, eight score involvements and 339 metres gained) rounded out the Round 1 vote-getters for the Tigers in the prestigious coaches’ award with one vote.
