Although Richmond’s exciting rookie prospect Mabior Chol clearly has a long way to go in terms of his overall development at the game’s highest level, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that he could secure a place in the Tigers’ senior line-up for the season-opener against Carlton on March 24.
Richmond assistant coach Brendon Lade, who stood in as the Tigers’ senior coach for the opening two matches of their NAB Challenge campaign, liked what he saw from the talented, tall teenager during those pre-season hit-outs against Fremantle and Hawthorn.
Chol produced some eye-catching glimpses of the raw talent that he possesses in both games, playing up forward, with the occasional stint in the ruck.
“He’s got all the athlete traits you could want in a footballer,” Lade said on SEN.
“We’ve got to keep reminding ourselves he’s only 18 years old . . .
“For him, it’s about keep developing.
“He’s playing a role for us at the moment in our forward line. And, if he keeps doing that, he could be a chance for Round 1.”
