Three-time Richmond premiership players Dion Prestia and Dylan Grimes have secured their Richmond futures, each signing new contract extensions this week.

Prestia, 28, has put pen to paper on a three-year extension tying him to the Club until the end of 2024, while Grimes’ two-year extension will see him at Richmond until at least the end of 2023.

Grimes, 29, will be given a chance to enter a 13th and 14th season at the Club as part of the deal after he was initially selected in the AFL pre-season draft, having been overlooked at the 2009 AFL National Draft just weeks earlier.

The reliable defender who is among the top echelon in the competition was an All-Australian in 2019 and is a two-time Francis Bourke award winner for his team-first style of play.

Grimes was also voted by his peers as the AFLPA Robert Rose Most Courageous Player in 2019 and has been in the All-Australian squad of 40 in each of the past three seasons.

Prestia, 28, has been a vital part of the Richmond midfield since crossing over from the Gold Coast SUNS before the 2017 season.

The hard-running midfielder has averaged 24.4 disposals, 4.2 tackles, and just under a goal a game in his time at Richmond and was named as the Jack Dyer Medalist as the Club’s best and fairest player in 2019.

Richmond General Manager- Football Talent Blair Hartley said it was exciting to have two key players commit to the Club.

“Both Dylan and Dion have been a massive part of our recent success and are driven and hungry to help us strive for more over the coming years,” he said.

“Dylan has been a fantastic servant of the Club’s for a long period of time and continues to set high standards for all of our players on and off the field.

“He is an excellent mentor for our young defenders and one of the best performing players in the competition.

“Likewise, Dion has been a consistently high performer for us across several years.

“It has been pleasing to see Dion rewarded for his hard work in recent years, but it has not changed his desire to keep pushing himself and the group forward.”

Prestia has played 164 AFL games for his career (69 for Richmond), while Grimes has notched up 171.
