COACHING can be a lot like cooking – you put the ingredients together, time your bake properly, and an hour or so later you've got the result.

In this case, the outcome was a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination for young Richmond key forward Jack Riewoldt, the second nominee for the Tigers this season.

Coach Terry Wallace delivered the bake at quarter time in Richmond's smashing of West Coast at Subiaco Oval on Sunday, and Riewoldt responded magnificently, kicking a career-high five goals – including three during Richmond’s record-breaking 11-goal second term.

Riewoldt said he was happy to get the nomination, but happier to have the Tigers sixth win for the year on the board, keeping them in the hunt for the final eight.

"I'm pretty stoked, but AFL's not a game of individual honours, really, it's a team game," he said.

"I'm probably more stoked about the win we had over in the West – we've played over there twice now, and we've won convincingly both times, so it's a great ground for us to play at, we've enjoyed a great win on the weekend, so the boys are really up."

Riewoldt admitted that Wallace had chatted to him during the first break.

"We came in at quarter time and he had a few words to me – not stern words, but he just asked me to lift my output in the game, and so that was my focus for the rest of the game.

"I just went out there and tried to do the things that are going to help the team the most."

Riewoldt said the coach was happy with everyone after the win, not just the target of his quarter-time directive.

"He was pretty stoked and pretty proud, but I think he was pretty proud of everyone, the way we played – it was probably one of the best 22-man effort games we've played for the year.

"The last time we played like that was probably when we played Fremantle over there (a 64-point thumping), so it was just good for the boys, for everyone to have an input in the game and really enjoy it."
