Richmond’s semi-final clash with St Kilda at Metricon Stadium on Friday night will be just the fourth time the two teams have met in an AFL/VFL finals series.
The overall scoreline in three previous encounters is two wins to the Saints and one to the Tigers.
They first played each other in a final during the 1939 season. St Kilda defeated Richmond by 30 points in the first semi-final at the MCG – 10.12 (72) to 6.6 (42).
It was 32 years later when they next met in a final, with the Saints triumphing, again by 30 points, in the 1971 preliminary final at the MCG – 16.12 (108) to 12.6 (78).
Two years on from that, the Tigers scored their inaugural victory over the Saints in a final, beating them by 40 points in the first semi-final at the MCG – 15.18 (108) to 9.14 (68) – en route to the 1973 premiership.
Here's the last time @Richmond_FC played St Kilda in a final, - 1973 Semi Final.
