The crowd as last Saturday night’s Dreamtime at the ‘G match was Richmond’s highest for the season.

A total of 84,234 people turned out to watch the blockbuster game of the AFL’s Indigenous Round, which was the AFL’s third-highest crowd attendance in season 2013.

The Tigers have now had three crowd attendances over 80,000 this season – in Round 1 v Carlton (80,971), Round 4 v Collingwood (81,950) and Round 9 v Essendon (84,234). It’s the first time in Richmond’s history that the Club has achieved these crowd figures in a home and away season.

Although the MCG’s capacity during the AFL’s home and away season is 95,000, Dreamtime at the ‘G was announced as a sell-out in the lead-up to the game. This is due to the amount of pre-purchased reserved seats by members and casual sales.

For the average blockbuster, around 30,000 tickets are sold through Ticketek, including General Admission members who choose to upgrade to a reserved seat. It’s expected that around five per cent of these people don’t end up attending the game for various reasons.

Richmond also has around 16,000 reserved seat members and an average reserved seat attendance of 75–80 per cent for blockbuster games. Unfortunately, the AFL cannot re-sell these seats if the reserved seat member doesn’t attend the match.

To hit ground capacity, all of these supporters would have to turn up to the game and every seat in the MCC and the AFL members filled.

Richmond has a high proportion of General Admission members, however with a growing membership base – Richmond now has the third highest membership base in the AFL - it’s not as easy as in previous seasons to get a seat at a big game simply by showing up at the game.

As a result of the increase in demand, the Club is opening up a priority waiting list for members who want to upgrade to a reserved seat for 2014. If you don’t currently have a reserved seat as part of your membership and would like to be placed on the priority list, please click here and leave your details.
