Development coach Sam Lonergan provides a summary of how the Tigers’ players performed in Sunday morning's scratch match against Brisbane on the Gold Coast.  

Patrick Naish

"Strong first half providing transition running from the wing. He was involved in a number of scoring chains and it was pleasing to see him hit the scoreboard with a nice contested mark."

Jack Higgins

"Started off well and it didn’t take long for him to find the goals with a strong contested mark and long-range finish. Unfortunately Jack’s game was cut short with a minor lower leg complaint."

 Thomson Dow

"Shared his time between midfield and half-forward. I was pleased to see his game grow in the front half of the ground as a forward, finishing with three goals. As a midfielder, he continued to display his sharp hands and agility in traffic."

Nathan Broad

"Held strong down back taking four intercept marks, two of which were strong contested marks. His work rate was exceptionally high, providing some great defensive cover. His leadership was a highlight, guiding our young players throughout the day."

Hugo Ralphsmith

"Continues to grow spending time at half-forward and at half-back. His running capability allows us to explore both ends of the ground as he has a natural ability to find handball receives and achieve high metres gained. Hugo is responding really well moving between the roles."

Riley Collier-Dawkins

"Played a fantastic game. Displayed his strengths as a powerful inside midfielder, finishing with five clearances and six tackles. His hands were stronger in the contest and the highlight was his ability to explode from stoppage and power through tackles. This often created further opportunities for his teammates around the contest. Overall, a very good game."

Derek Eggmolesse-Smith 

"Highlight was his intensity at the contest, laying six tackles for a shortened scrimmage game. He provided his usual run and carry from the back half and hit a number of nice kicks to start our offensive ball movement."

Oleg Markov

"Very good four-quarter effort with his strengths well and truly on show. His speed and ability to take the game on was outstanding. Kicked a great goal from half-back with two running bounces, breaking 50m and finishing his work. Leadership and direction from the back was very strong too."

Fraser Turner

"His running power is very good and he was able to find a number of uncontested possessions. Fraser has been working on his contested possession and we’ve seen some good signs of development."

Luke English

"Continued his strong form in the scrimmages, but a highlight was his ability to kick three goals when he went forward. He also spent some time in the midfield and showed his strong endurance capabilities, working from contest to contest and providing some great transition running and support for his teammates. Overall, a really good game" 

Will Martyn

"Playing like a player beyond his years. He’s a strong and tough young man, laying tackles and fighting through the contest. He added some good uncontested possessions to his game and used the ball well."

Ben Miller

"Been playing a new role over the last two scrimmages, between ruck and forward. His attitude to accept the challenge has been exceptional and he's progressing very well as a ruckman. Kicking two goals when he went forward was a great reward for the work Ben has been putting in."

Ryan Garthwaite 

"He played a solid first-half of football. One on one, Garthy was very strong and it was a positive to see him equalise and win some battles. As the game went on, Brisbane started to get on top, making it more difficult for our defenders. Garthy played a further quarter before he was rested. Good return and looking forward to seeing his progression in the next scrimmage."
