Talented teenage debutant Thomson Dow and two-time premiership ruckman Toby Nankervis are Richmond’s two inclusions for Thursday night’s big Round 14 clash with West Coast at Metricon Stadium.

They replace Sydney Stack, sidelined with a hip injury, and Mabior Chol, who has been omitted.

Dow, the Tigers’ first pick in the 2019 AFL national draft, receives his senior opportunity following a series of impressive performances in scratch matches at the group’s Queensland hub.

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick detailed Dow’s on-field attributes at his press conference earlier today.

“He’s a genuine inside ‘mid’. He probably reminds us of a Shane Edwards type – very good in and around traffic, got elite hands, can win the ball, can follow up,” Hardwick said.

“Look, he’s got some learnings of the game and how we play the game that will certainly come over the period of his career through experience. But we’re going to see a player through the middle of the ground that will do some nice things with the ball. He’ll set up others.

“He’s very good around clearance and he can use the ball well, as well.

“So, it’s going to be exciting for our fans to see him on the big stage.”

Dow to debut

Thomson Dow is told that he will make his debut in the Round 14 match against West Coast.

Nankervis has been out of action since the Tigers’ Round 5 victory over Melbourne on July 5 because of a syndesmosis injury.

“We love what ‘Nank’ brings to the side,” Hardwick said.

“He’s a little bit small in stature for a ruckman, but he makes up with all heart and his intensity.

“We’ve been looking forward to welcoming him back at some stage, and this is the week.”

Richmond’s four emergencies for tomorrow night’s game are Jack Ross, Will Martyn, Nathan Broad and Josh Caddy.
