Assistant coach, midfield/stoppage, Adam Kingsley spoke to Matthew Richardson about the Round 10 win over Brisbane in this week's edition of Coaches Corner, presented by Hostplus.
A solid win
"It was a great night. We played a really strong brand of footy that we feel like we've played the last two games in particular...playing that Richmond brand of footy that we know and love."
Shai Bolton's midfield dominance
"His ability to win the ball and then break out of those stoppages is fantastic, it provides a lot of drive for us. I know our forwards love it because he's given them some good first looks. Probably his last month, since he's moved in there has been really good, we've been quite happy with how he's progressing...He's very quick, so if he gets to the outside, he's very difficult to catch and we saw that numerous times again on Tuesday night...We ask our players to play to their strengths and certainly his are his speed and agility, which he's showing each and every game he's playing at the moment."
Marlion Pickett's form
"He's very versatile. We've been able to play him on the wing the last couple of weeks, he's (also) played inside-mid, he can play half-back and half-forward, we love his versatility. He's very smooth when he gets the ball and covers the ground well so we've been really pleased with him also."
Sydney Stack's encouraging performance
"He's a great contest player for us and we saw that last year in various positions. He hunts the ball as well as anyone, he's kind of like a young Trent Cotchin moving through the midfield. We're hoping to continue on that path with him and play him in the midfield more if we can, and with experience, he'll just grow and grow we expect."
The dual ruck combination of Soldo and Chol
"They're both different...Soldo's a right-handed big, strong, heavy guy and 'Marbs' is more agile and left-handed. We love their work, particularly their tap work at the centre bounce has been really good. Probably the thing we love most about both of them is their follow-up, the amount of tackles and bodies they hit is really important for the rest of our midfield. So, we keep encouraging them to do that."
Round 11 against Port Adelaide
"It's a skinny ground, Adelaide Oval is a lot like Kardinia Park. So, it's generally a lot more contested and a lot more stoppages. And (Port Adelaide) have a midfield that suits that style of game, bigger bodies...It's going to be a critical battle in that element of the game, stoppages at contests, particularly the long down the line contests. Which we've been really good at, but (it's) a different challenge. Port Adelaide are in really good form sitting on top of the ladder, and (the game is at) their home deck...I'm sure our boys will give their best effort and see where it takes us."
